IDK, I was doodling on a notebook and this shirtless guy came up, and I went “Uh, Badass Desna! Is a thing?”

Then as I kept doodling, I drew Kirima behind, and the AU idea that thy grew up more harshly came rolling down. After a coup in the Northern Water Tribe (shortly after Korra was revealed to be the avatar) The twins family was sent into prison but they managed to sneak the twins away. Unfortunately, their ship on route to the Southern pole was hit by a storm and the twins were considered dead. They were washed ashore the earth kingdom and not remembering much of their lives, they grew up as orphans in a small town.

With time, they became street smart and sneaky in order to survive, finally moving to Republic City to find bigger fishes to catch. And there, it was only a matter of time before the twins, looking for trouble, crossed paths with Bolin, always seeming to find himself on it.

Desna gets hurt after saving Bolin from the Agni Kai Triad (after he confronted them about trying to recruit Mako) and his sister heals him while questioning his motives to be so reckless. They have met some times before this, but just in passing.
